Making your own spice blends at home is easier than you think.
This Copycat Emeril’s Essence Seasoning is easy to put together and uses common spices you likely already have on hand. Homemade spice mixes are budget friendly. This is a seasoning that has a creole flavor to it and compliments beef, chicken, seafood, you name it!
Personally, I buy most of my spices in bulk at Costco and Sams. They last me a long time, many of them at least a year.
Let me show you what you need to create this homemade seasoning mix that really will kick it up a notch with any dish you are making. I love that it uses common spices.
Spices Used to Make Emeril’s Essence Seasoning at Home
- paprika
- salt
- garlic powder
- black pepper
- onion powder
- red pepper flakes
- dried oregano
- dried thyme
Measure out each spice. You can measure them all out into individual bowls if you want, otherwise just mix the seasoning one by one adding each one to a larger bowl.
Once you get all of the spices added to the bowl, use a spoon or a fork to mix them up well.
Once it is well combined, carefully transfer the spice blend over to an airtight container. I used a glass jar.

How Long Will Homemade Essence Seasoning Last?
When kept in an airtight container, this homemade spice blend will easily keep for a year in your pantry as long as each spice had an expiration date that is at least a year out.
What Can I Use Emeril’s Essence Seasoning on?
Because it is a savory spice blend, this is perfect for chicken, seafood and veggies. It does have a little bit of a kick to it, but you can omit the red pepper flakes when you out the blend together if you want to take any heat out. It was great on this quick shrimp pasta recipe.
I have seen people add it to soups, omelets and even spaghetti sauce. I bet it would be really good on a grilled steak too!

Where is the Best Place to Buy Spices?
Personally, I buy most of my spices in bulk and I get them at Costco and Sams, as I said earlier.
That said, you do not have to buy them in bulk. A few of my other favorite places to buy spices when Im not shopping in bulk is Aldi, Dollar Tree, Big Lots and HomeGoods.
